The St. Augustine Art Association presents the 51st Annual Art & Craft Festival at Francis Field on Saturday and Sunday, November 26 and 27, 2016, at Francis Field. This premier outdoor art fair attracts visitors and residents alike, ranging from knowledgeable art collectors to holiday shoppers looking for something unique. With over 150 artists displaying their work, it’s easy to find the perfect gift.

Art In Public Places at Indian River County Courthouse

“Midnight on Flame River”

This venue is open to the public from 9am-5pm Monday thru Friday. The Indian River County Courthouse hosts exhibits of professional Florida Artists on an ongoing basis as part of the Art in Public Places program. The exhibits are sponsored by the Cultural Council of Indian River County and the Florida Arts Council.

The Indian River County Courthouse receives about 400+ visitors per day. The exhibit is shown for a three month period on the first floor and can accomodate approximately thirty 2-dimensional works of art. The First Floor Sculpture Gallery is located in the circular lobby area. We have a few sculpture stands at various heights with a top surface of 18″x18″. These stands can also be placed horizontally to accommodate more pieces. Original works only are permitted for sculptors, painters and mixed media artists. Giclees, lithographs or electronic prints are not accepted. Printmakers may exhibit hand-pulled prints. Digital artists and digital photographers only may exhibit electronic prints.

An Artist’s Awakening From the Sewell’s Point Entry Door – Stuart , FL. – 1993

This was my Very First Marquetry Project!  I had been commissioned to design a carved door to complement the profuse tropical landscape of my clients’ home, but while they loved my design, my price to create it as a high-relief carving was outside of their budget. They had already paid me for the design and were considering sending it to Indonesia or Mexico, where some very capable carvers work for pennies per day, but graciously agreed to give me a couple weeks to come up with a more affordable alternative.

Pursuing the Mojo of Mixed-Media Marquetry

Sketching and painting have been parts of my life from my earliest memory, but the necessity of making a living had long relegated my artistic drive to the level of therapeutic exercise, interspersed with occasional, unsuccessful forays into the realm of art/craft shows and underpriced commissions … until the summer of 2008, when an unexpected layoff from my career in the cabinetmaking industry, with no other jobs available to replace it, forced me to consider the possibilities that lay within the stacked and stashed pages of my aging art “portfolio“ … not that much of it was presentable – but when it occurred to me that one of my unsatisfying watercolors might look better cut up and redone as a work of marquetry? My accumulating depression vanished, my inherent persistence stepped up, and Satisfaction was the result! I quickly set my unemployed but highly motivated time to creating MORE ! …
