Manistique Regatta

2010  –  14”x18” –  Sold

Looking about for suitable Nort’woods scenes, a book on Lighthouses caught my eye and knowing the popularity of them among collectors of coastal arts, I started asking among my peers for recommendations; a friend from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula mentioned  Manistique’s south pier light, and while it wasn’t among those in the book, I found several images online and used my artists license to create this view using red-dyed Sycamore, Philippine Mahogany, Quilted Birch, dyed Tiger Maple,  Olivewood Burl, and dyed flat-cut Maple. The sailboats were added with colored pencil and the tower’s lens is Mother of Pearl with a colored paper backing.
