To use an analogy from my recreational pastimes, marquetry is much like paddling a boat, while painting is more akin to sailing. The best I can do is to let it all flow . . .

Drawing and painting are where I find both true artistic freedom, and the compulsion to express that imagery in ever more challenging media. During my 30 years in custom woodwork, drawing was all about the next step toward a project, and painting was a hobby of more immediately expressive gratifications. Today my pens and paints have their own space in the studio and the resulting works are more often framed and shown than boxed away . . .
