Variation on a Theme

Mixed Media Marquetry – January, 2010 – Sold

Transplanted to da frozen nort’, I set up the old studio apparatus in the new realm and got to work on my favorite theme, in a smaller format than I had previously preferred, due to the fact that the basement, (an enclave foreign to my Florididian roots) was too dammmn cold for effective use of the large work desk I had parked therein; a small thrift-store version in a spare upstairs room would have to suffice, and the smaller scale it necessitated, coupled with a poverty level that meant I could no longer use plywood backing, (opting for masonite, which is actually more stable, at a lower price), led to this Variation; listen closely – it’s the sound of Joy!

Tiger Maple, Birdseye Maple, Walnut, Mahogany, Ebony, Rosewood, Redwood Burl, and Mother of Pearl, (with strings in metallic ink).
